I meant to start this earlier, but I guess I'll just have to cover alot today.
I left for Scotland at 10:30 pm on Sunday night. Within minutes of arriving at my gate, I met Katie. We talked for a while and sat next to each other on the plane. Then, along came Mackenzie and Lindsay; we all sat together in the middle four seater of the plane. It was a 6 hour flight, so we had tv screens w/movies to watch. Unfortunately, my headphones wouldn't work, so I had to share w/Katie. We had to start our same movies at the same time so the sound wasn't off for me. It was hard! We watched "Brideshead Revisited" and "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian".
Finally we arrived in Edinburgh (pronounced Edinburah), where we were met by Dierdra and Jenny (names??) who took us back to the Apex International Hotel. I roomed w/Lindsay and Katie and Mackenzie roomed together. We also met Ashlee and Frank, who flew over a day earlier. Ashlee took us on a tour of the city. Most of our meals were covered by our program IFSA-Butler. The 6 of us spent alot of time together, and it was nice. I was really enjoying myself. Tho, the first day I woke up and felt kinda homesick, maybe cuz it was still dark outside. (It doesn't get light out until about 9am). But I got over that fast.
Our second day in Edinburgh, we hiked up Arthur's seat, which is a large mountain. It took up most of the day, but I think we started to bond then. Frank seemed to take a liking to Mackenzie. I think Lindsay took a liking to Frank. It was almost a weird situation, but I think it ended once we left Edinburgh. At the top of Arthur's Seat, it was so windy! But seeing all of Edinburgh and the ocean w/ an island in the middle was beautiful!
After hiking all the way up a couple mountains, we went to our first pub. I got hot chocolate lol. There was an old man playing the guitar and singing what seemed to be like traditional Irish pub songs. It is so laidback here. No one really seems to ever be in a rush. And I rarely see anyone talking or texting on their cell phones, unlike in the U.S. I really don't even miss the use of my cell phone.
First Pub!
