After a couple days of orientation w/ IFSA-Butler, we left for Glasgow. My rooming assignment is in Cairncross House, which is a good 20 min. walk to campus. There are lots of street lights and hills to walk up. My calves are killing me. Frank is also in Cairncross, but I haven't seen him since we arrived. All the other girls live on the otherside of campus. My roommate, Paula, is from Finland. She seems nice. She didnt arrive until a couple days after me, and I haven't really gotten the chance to talk to her. She seems to be good friends w/another girl in our hall and spent alot of time w/her and I didn't want to interrupt. I did meet a french canadian girl, Sophie, at orientation, then ran into her in the kitchen, I'm glad she lives here, too.
Speaking of orientation at Glasgow, it lasted 2 days. We have to talk to our professors and see if they will let us in their classes. If they say no, too bad for us. We are only supposed to take 60 credits. I am takind Scottish Lit., English Lit., Film & TV, and I want to take Exploring Scottish Culture. They are all 20 credits and Exploring Scottish Culture is 10 credits. I really want to take it, since I am in Scotland and it would take us on trips around Scotland, but I don't know if I am allowed to take 70 credits. I'm trying not to stress about it, everything has to work out. Right?
Friday night, the Uni had a Ceilidh (kaylee) which is like scottish square dancing. It was so much fun! The only bad part was there were more girls than guys, so sometimes I had to dance w/a girl. But I did dance like 3 times w/ a nice scottish boy. Later in the night, it turned into a club w/a bar called Cheesy Pop! B/c they played cheesy pop music from the 90's and earlier. First song played: I'm a barbie girl, in a barbie world. It was great, I met a lot of people, but I hardly remember their names :-/
Yesterday, I went shopping w/some of the IFSA girls and 3 other girls from their flat. We took the subway into the center of Glasgow, then took a bus to an IKEA, then took a taxi home cuz the bus never came back. It was ridiculous that we bought round trip tickets for the subway and bus lol. But it was good we got the cab cuz it was raining and I don't think I coulda walked the couple miles to and from the subway station w/ all my bags. I had to get some kitchen supplies so I could actually eat something other than bread, poptarts and pretzels; and I got a blanket cuz apparently the heat only comes on certain times, and I keep waking up in the middle of the night freezing cold.
